The Archbishop of Mosul
The Archbishop of Mosul has been captured by gunmen in Iraq.
David Lindsay has drawn attention to it with these two linked articles. The news reports are not good.
The Pope has condemned the kidnapping as despicable.
The Chaldean church is in communion with Rome but not subject to the rites that hold in the west. I wrote about it here and linked to it. It is a symbol of diversity within the Catholic church, and employs a very ancient language close to that which Jesus spoke. 155000 Iraqis follow it, now under threat of martyrdom.
People of good will must hope that the Archbishop does not fall victim to the men of evil who have raged for so long across the arcs of instability.
