Si Se Puede; the triumph of the human spirit Part 3
In these gloomy times, and on a night when Ethiopia faces famine again (a bitter forewarning of things to come across the world), my heart was lifted once again by the continuing adventures of the 'Blade Runner' Oscar Pistorius.
I've mentioned him a couple of times before, alongside other heroes of the human spirit. Whatever you think of the Beijing Olympics, the news tonight that Pistorius has won his right to compete to go must surely make you feel good to be from the same species as this man.
His chance was won on an appeal from the international athletics federation's decision that this double amputee was just too good and too fast because of his prosthetics. I admire Mr Pistorius, who is only 21, very much. Let's hope 'the fastest thing on no legs' meets his destiny and wins a gold!
