I suspect Dail Mail Journalism is nearly alway just plain wrong.
If you click on the suggested further reading in the article:

' Doh! Patriotic Sarah Palin claims Revolutionary War hero Paul Revere's midnight ride was to 'warn the British'

Paul Revere was captured and did indeed warn the British not to go further. Palin is being ridiculed for telling true history that 'popular' journalists can't seem to get their heads round.

Though, frankly, the number of readers in the comments 'cheered right up' by the 'furred reich kitlers' is somewhat worrying. They're but one step from mentioning his singing voice.
