Barack Obama wants the Situation Internationalised; John McCain wants his thumb in Russia's eye.
An exercise in comparison for my viewer. My sympathies, given the domestic constraints on candidates, are with Obama, but I think that he needs someone who has been near a fight beside him. He's clearly reading lines, but at least he has the sense to do that.
I think McCain is genuinely revealing himself here and, whatever he says, is still thinking in cold war terms. He's speaking the national security creed. If his words are not the Nicenean text, they are not Athanasian either.
No reference to energy; no real grasp of Russia's present position or sensibilities; faithful quotes from Henry Kissinger, and a description of the present President of Russia as a 'stooge'. He also makes a very worrying reference to the Ukraine which is glib enough to be as dangerous as the domino theory, and his lack of understanding of just how fiscally weakened and militarily stretched America is right now is very obvious.
